Okinawa Day 1:

On the 1st day of the Okinawa school trip, students gathered in the morning, in anticipation of the exciting events awaiting them. As it was the 1st time to fly on an airplane for many of the students, everyone gasped in excitement and in fear as the plane took off towards their destination.
After a short and smooth flight, we headed to Koza, home of a military air base, where students were divided into groups and walked around the area with tour guides learning valuable lessons about peace.
Once our Koza tours were finished, we headed to Ishikawa Tamokuteki Dome for an opening ceremony, where we were welcomed with Okinawan music and dances. It was there that everybody met their homestay families and after the ceremony, everybody went to their home for the next two days for some Okinawa-style home cooking and their first night under the Okinawa night sky.

Okinawa Day 2:

Strong winds approached Okinawa in the evening of Day 1, cooling the temperatures considerably, but fortunately no signs of rain so far.
After spending their mornings with their homestay families, everybody gathered again at the Ishikawa Tamokuteki Dome and split up into 3 groups to study SDGs in different locations. Each location focused on different aspects of life in Okinawa; 1) Development and Culture, 2) Nature and the Environment and 3) Water and the people.
The Development and Culture group visited the Itoman Uminchu Kobo Museum and learned about the history and ways of life of the fishing communities of Okinawa and discussed the impacts of modernization and development in the areas.
Once these valuable lessons and time for reflection, the groups gathered back again to meet up with their host families to spend their final night together. Many exciting activities are planned for tomorrow, so we are crossing our fingers and hoping for cooperation from Mother Nature!!
